RAPID  SYPHILIS TEST

Syphilis Treatment

Syphilis is a spirochete infection that can be caught by having sex with someone who already has the infection. If you display any signs of infection, it is best to get tested and treated as soon as possible as the long term damage can be severe. At first, it can be treated easily with a short injection course of antibiotics. We provide rapid syphilis test to ensure we can treat you as soon as possible. After treatment, it is still possible to catch the infection as the treatment does not grant you immunity.

Symptoms of syphilis, Some have NO symptoms

Our syphilis test can quickly diagnose any symptoms of the infection to tell whether or not you have it. In general, the symptoms are not always obvious and can even disappear, however, you will still be infected until you are treated. Some people never display any symptoms, which is why you should always get tested when having sex with a new partner.

The symptoms of syphilis can include:

  • Small, painless sores or ulcers that typically appear on the penis, vagina, or around the anus, but can occur in other places such as the mouth

  • A blotchy red rash that often affects the palms of the hands or soles of the feet

  • Small skin growths (similar to genital warts) that may develop on the vulva in women or around the bottom (anus) in both men and women

  • White patches in the mouth

  • Tiredness, headaches, joint pains, a high temperature (fever) and swollen glands in your neck, groin or armpits

If it's left untreated for years, syphilis can spread to other parts of the body, including the brain, which results in a number of long-term issues. If you believe that you or your partner may have syphilis you should get tested as soon as possible due to a wide number of reasons.

These reasons include:

  • Syphilis will not normally go away on its own

  • Getting tested is the only way to find out if you have it - it is better to be safe and check

  • The best treatment is injections that can’t be bought over the counter

  • Treatment can help reduce the risk of spreading the infection to others and serious long term problems for your body

The best place for you to do this is at our doctors, in which we will provide you with a syphilis test to determine whether or not you have the infection. This test will involve a blood test, as well as removing a sample of fluid from any sores.

How we treat Syphilis

Due to the nature of syphilis, it is treated in a number of ways. Here are the various ways that we use:

An injection into your buttocks. This is can be done once if the infection is early, however, if you have had the infection for a long period of time or if you are unsure , you may need three injections for over 3 weeks.

A short course of antibiotics should you be allergic to the injection. This will last for anything between two and four weeks, depending on the amount of time that you have been carrying the illness.

During the time of treatment, you should avoid any form of sexual activity or close sexual contact with another person for at least 2 weeks after your treatment has been completed.

How is syphilis spread?

Syphilis is spread in a range of ways and in particular through close contact with an infected sore. The most common way of this occurring is during vaginal, anal or oral sex, as well as sharing toys with anyone who is infected.

If you are pregnant, you can also pass syphilis down to your unborn child.

It is also possible to catch syphilis by injecting yourself with drugs, or by sharing a needle with someone else who is infected, for example through a blood transfusion. However, this is extremely rare and uncommon in Singapore. If you have shown any of the potential symptoms, it is crucial that you see our team as soon as possible. We will provide you with the treatment that you need to recover, ensuring that you are treated as soon as possible.
